Building

The Block!

No, not the TV show (although I love that as well).

I’m talking about our block, our patch of dirt, our little piece of land.

We spotted this block in October 2013. A lot of land releases in our town are getting further and further out, like they would in most places I guess. We didn’t want to live further out, we wanted to be relatively close to shops, schools and work. There aren’t many blocks for sale within town so we thought this was the one! We got excited and started looking at plans and we were ready to go.

And then – we sought some financial advice and it was to wait another 6 months. Boo.

6 months later we sought advice again and this time we were given the go ahead! The block was still available so we snapped it up after chatting the builder who owned it.

here it is

It’s 865sq m, 21m wide and 43m deep. We are more than happy with the size. It slopes down away from the road and to take advantage of this we will build a two storey home and utilise some of the under house for storage. Hopefully enough so that we don’t need a shed. That tree you see will be gone, and our view will be awesome. We often used to talk that if we were to ever build we would want a view. Before we were married we rented a home and the back verandah looked out onto a busy main road, and hubby used to love just watching the cars go by. He can’t wait to have his morning coffee out on the deck and look out.

I heard from our builder and the preliminary plans are back and we should get them tomorrow. How exciting!

Have you built? Do you have any tips for me?

My tip would be read everything, every little print. I picked up many mistakes during admin stage, I’m so glad I did!
Another tip right down each room then list things you’d change, add, upgrade, colours and so on

    Enjoy it!!
