SO WHAT HAPPENED TO MY HOUSE BUILD?
Some of my earlier readers will remember a few blog posts about The Mr and I building a new house. One of the reasons I start Our Urban Box was so that I could document the build process for friends and family to keep up to date. All seemed to be going well until the quote came back way over budget. So we put it off for 12 months so that we could save some more money. Which to be honest hasn’t really happened. I think we have both just come to realise that the build is going to be over budget and we will just have to deal with it.
We have finalised the plan and made some major changes to the facade. We have gone from a traditional looking home to quite modern with different materials and a skillion roof – as you can see above. We are both really happy with how the house looks now and can’t wait to get started. We even picked our colours on the weekend.
As the block slopes down away from the road, it is a two level home, with rumpus, laundry and under house storage located on the lower level. Upstairs is the living, kitchen, theatre and all the bedrooms. The plan isn’t 100% what I wanted but overall I am happy. Designing a house involves a lot of compromise! I can’t wait to have more than one living space – just to have more room and not be all on top of each other all the time is going to be great. Oh and all their toys downstairs and out of sight!
We had a huge tree chopped down the other day to get the block ready for a start hopefully early next year. I know what I want for my kitchen and bathroom but am petrified that the end result will look nothing like my Pinterest board! I am so scared of choosing the wrong tiles or something. Its not like you can just change it.
So I just wanted to update you all and let you know thats where things are at. I will be blogging a lot about the build and all of my colour selections and will probably be asking for a lot of help deciding!
I’ll keep you posted!
