I met Elise on Instagram when I showcased her fun handmade party decor in one of my Fab Finds on Instagram posts. After that I then discovered her personal Instagram account and the girl has style! She knows how to mix her Kmart & Target finds with Country Road, Freedom and of course amazing Instagram finds. Today she is sharing her kitchen/dining room with us.
Lets chat with Elise!
Hi Elise, thank you so much for being part of the #oubstyle series. Tell us a bit about yourself and your home.
I’m Elise Bevan, 28 make up artist, owner @lavenderhoneyandco Perth WA currently renting in Byford which is a semi-rural area. Married to Daniel chiropractor for 8 years with daughters Shiloh (4) and Willow 18 months.
We sold our home last year in October and we are currently renting whilst our new home is being built. It’s actually only five minutes from our rental which is great!! Ha ha Our rental is very basic as we had only 4 weeks for settlement to find something within our budget and that was available immediately. 4×2 with theatre and study. It’s neutral which is great (white walls, white and grey tiles and natural timber features) and was a brand new investment property! Yippee no horrible previous tenants leaving nasty surprises behind!
What inspired you when you were decorating this room?
Renting is hard, you really just want to make the space your own but unfortunately we can’t damage any walls with pictures etc.and we have a lot of restrictions. I really just had to pick and choose a lot of neutral tones (white, black, grey, blush pink and pastels) to make the white walls not so bare and noticeable but atleast blend with the rest of the decor. Pastels, copper and marble are huge trends right now and I’m all for jumping on a good trend so bringing a lot of these elements into this space to make it more appealing than white walls and grey floors! Our new home will have a lot of Nordic features as well as modern statement pieces. I’ve displayed a few new items I’ve found recently and unpacked some much loved items. I really enjoy clean spaces, nothing overly cluttered or too busy. I’m having a lot of fun playing around with different styles as its all pretty neutral I can easily add pops of colour and change it up when I need to! Indoor plants are becoming my new obsession! I’m not much of a green thumb but I’ve kept a few of them alive from our previous home so they survived the move and I’m impressed with how well they are doing! Even lady fiddle lead fig has some new growth which is exciting!
I’m impressed too! My fig is dying ha! What is your favourite item in the room?
I fell in love with the freedom tractor stools when they were featured on the block. I just had to have them. These are a lot more industrial and suited our previous home perfectly. I think they still work in this space as we have a lot of timber feature cabinetry and the industrial style legs keep them modern and versatile.
What was the most luxe purchase and the budget purchase?
Luxe would be the freedom stools… I even had to go on a lengthy wait list for them but they were worth it!! Pieces like this I invest in because I know I’ll have them for a while and they need to last with kids!!
Budget purchase.. I love my Jimmy stand from Mocka Australia. The best $40 I ever spent. It’s so easy to style and versatile you can use it to display amazing plants, as storage or as a bed side table, the possibilities are endless! It’s great for us I can display some of my favourite prints on it so atleast I can feel a little more at home and reflect my personal style.
Is there anything you would change?
Dining table for sure! It’s at the stage where it needs an update and I’ve had this one for so long. I would love a long white dining table that seats atleast 8-10. This one is small so when we have friends and family over we struggle to all sit around and eat a meal!!
Can you list some of the stores you used for this room?
Mocka Australia, Freedom, Kmart, Country Road, Tall Blank Wall, Society 6, Target, Little Leaf Co
Thanks Elise for being part of my #oubstyle series. I love your home, and I can’t wait to see your new one when it is finished! I love how you have the perfect mix of Kmart, Target and even the Reject Shop and it all looks effortless.
Do you have a room that you would love to feature on the blog? A kitchen, kids bedroom…even your laundry! Email me at hello @ oururbanbox.com (no spaces) or tag your photos on Instagram #oubstyle so I can take a peek. I can’t wait to feature more homes on the blog… will yours be next?
