I am hoping you all can help me! Here are the kitchen designs I have for my new kitchen. I am going with white cupboards below, Milano Mist Essastone benches (a really light grey marble), and back tap ware. The floating shelf and the overheads will be a light timber oak colour. So a bit scandi. I just can’t decide. So many people tell me I should choose the over heads that I am doubting my love for the open shelf design. I really love the open shelf design. Its what I have always wanted. But now I am not so sure. I wish I could have the designs drawn up in colour etc… that would make the choice so much easier. Does it look too unfinished? The shelf needs to line up with the bottom of the range hood which has been boxed it. Also I think two shelves would look better than one? I briefly spoke to the kitchen designer today and he said something about laminate working out to be more expensive than wood because I had to buy so many lots or something. I didn’t quite understand so will take the hubby back and get hime to work it out.

The second one has overhead cupboards. I don’t mind these either. There is one open shelf on the end and I would change that to be two open shelves. The extra storage would be a bonus although we have a large walk in pantry off the kitchen so it isn’t needed.

The other woe I have is that the ceilings are raked so they will be high with some windows. I am not sure we can have bulkheads above the over heads and I think that will look silly. With the open shelf I want to hang some large cool prints in the spaces.

I guess the reason I love open shelves so much is that it is a bit different to every other kitchen you see. I like different! Something a bit unusual. I want to be able to display a few little decor pieces and add some personality to the kitchen.

I think if you don’t need the cupboards for the storage space, go with the open shelves.
We only have one set of overhead cupboards due to the design of our kitchen and we have one set of open shelves and I think it opens up the space, plus you have options with how you want to decorate and what you want to use them for. It took me a while to get used to our open shelving because I’d never had it before but now I love it and wouldn’t want to change it.
It’s probably the only chance you’ll have to design your kitchen exactly how you want it, so I say go with what you’ve always wanted!!

Thanks lovely. It’s so hard to get right though. I keep going back and forth between the two designs.

I think you should definetely go with what you have always wanted more than what is on trend. My concern is that the boxed in rangehood looks a little odd with those thin streamlined shelves next to it. Perhaps we need some picture examples. You have great style so whatevery you choose will look awesome I am sure.
