MEET OLLIE – OUR BOUVIER DES FLANDRES PUP

Before I tell you all about him – just look how CUTE he is!!! I just had to share this fluff ball with you all!

So about 3 weeks ago we brought home a new pup! We’ve had Leo our Cavoodle for about 10 months now and felt he needed a friend. I was happy to get another small dog like Leo, but The Mr has always wanted another large breed dog. We have had Bullmastiffs in the past and love how they were a great family dog but also scary enough to scare away an intruder. We had a number of qualities we were looking for in a new breed, so the research began. We knew that The Mr wanted to get back into dog showing so he wanted a dog that would look great in the show ring. For it to come inside on the odd occasion it had to be a breed that didn’t shed. And above all else, he had to be a great family dog. We also didn’t mind a dog that was protective of his family, and would alert us to a visitor to the house. Google revealed maybe 2-3 large non shedding breeds and the Bouvier Des Flandres meet our needs.

I found a breeder in Victoria which was the closest to Wagga. We phoned them and as luck would have it, they had a 11 week old puppies that were ready. It was fate! We picked him up the very next weekend.

They are large, fluffy and non shedding. I think the non shedding bit is a stretch of the truth because they do shed, but due to their coat, the loose fur gets caught and doesn’t drift all over my house. So yep, you guessed it – high maintenance! We will have to brush him about 3 times a week – yikes!! I am secretly hoping that The Mr just does it ha!

His head should reach my hip and be about 45 – 50kgs. But so fluffy! Honestly, Ollie looks like a baby black bear at the moment. Check out daddy dog below, this photo does not show how big he actually is.

So far Ollie is the sweetest, biggest, funniest pup!  The kids love him, Leo loves him and everyone who meets him falls in love but are shocked when I say he is only 3 months old. He is already as big as Leo! But like most pups, we aren’t getting a lot of sleep. He will learn though!

He is growing so fast already! I will update with more pics as he grows because he is just so damned CUTE!!

Just ridiculous on the cute! I love big dogs too. I have a medium, freak of nature shedding dog that I love the guts out of. She is past 15 years now and has her old-lady issues she wont want me to mention. I really think studies could be done on her shedding capabilities to assist balding men!
