Top Tips for Finding Peace and Joy in a Busy World
It can seem overwhelming at times, the demands of parenting, work, wellbeing, family and trying to find some peace and joy in such a busy world!
It is possible and in fact it is essential for your wellbeing, to find some peace. We all know the harmful effects of working long hours, not taking care of our bodies and minds, and we all know how this impacts our families.
Even in the midst of the busiest day you can pause and find some peace, here are my tips that I hope you find helpful (and peaceful!).
It is important to let go of any guilt firstly: you are doing the best that you can do and you always have. It only matters what you do from this moment onwards, it is never too late to turn things around a little, or a lot if needed!
Holding onto guilt and carrying this harmful emotion around with you is blocking your path to peace, let it go! If this is easier said than done, I suggest a little practice. As soon as you can sense guilt creeping into your thinking, witness it and make a statement to yourself (in your head or out loud if possible) that you choose to let go of the guilt. I know this may sound a little ‘woo woo’ however it works, please give it a try.
Prioritise self-care: this will make such a huge difference. At times you might feel that this is a little self indulgent, or not as important as the other things on your list, that is not the case! Self care is essential if you really want to create some more peace in your busy world. Self-care is a very personal thing, make a list of the things that nurture you. It might be reading, meditating, running, blogging, walking, shopping, meeting friends, volunteering, painting, rearranging the house, a long bath.
Keep this list handy at all times and ensure that you put aside at least 30 minutes a day to practice one of your chosen self care activities. Prioritise this the same way that you would prioritise any other appointment, put it into your diary.
Utilise technology: there are loads of apps that can assist you with finding some more peace in your busy world. Try Smiling Mind for short meditations, these can be done on the train, at your desk, in bed at night. If you do a lot of typing, writing or blogging, install Om Writer and create a beautiful, peaceful environment for yourself to escape to every time you are writing!
Declutter: this is one of the most effective ways to live a more peaceful life. It is a simple practice, it may take a little discipline if you tend towards hoarding though! It is well worth the effort, scale back and bring on the zen! This book – “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” will get you started on your path to clean, tidy and peaceful!
Scale back your media: if you are anything like me, it comes at you from all angles, at all hours of the day! Filter your feeds carefully and only allow positive, helpful and uplifting news into your life! Remove anything that is not giving you good vibes, and ensure that your home is not wired for constant bombardment by screaming commercial news and other toxic media!
Plan your meals: if you can put aside 30 minutes each Sunday afternoon or whichever day of the week works best for you, to plan out your meals this is a good preventative measure to avoid stress and channel some more peace at home! Grab yourself a nice Meal Planner and your cookbooks, map out at least a few days at a time and then fill your fridge ready to breeze into meal times. More peace is guaranteed if you implement this practice!
Create a peaceful space at home: spend a little time preparing a space at home where you know you can escape for some peace, even if only for a few minutes. It might be a space outdoors if possible, a daybed on a balcony, or a small corner of your living room, it does not really matter, as long as you can make this space meaningful and peaceful. Grab a few things that create a sense of peace for you, maybe some new cushions, some of your favourite books or magazines, a nice candle. Let your family or house mates know that this space is sacred!
Hopefully you are able to take a few of these ideas and get yourself set up for some more peace and a little less of the head spinning chaos that we love at times but could certainly do without other times! Please do let Fleur and I know in the comments if you have any of your own tips to share too! Wishing you an abundance of zen, wellbeing and love!!
I absolutely adore this post, thank you so much Lisa for guiding me in the right direction to bring back some peace and joy into my life. I think the first thing on my list is to scale back my media and make my feed a positive space.
