Other, Our House

I can hardly believe it myself!! We are actually going to get this house built! The house is partly behind me being MIA as well. So many decisions, appointments and plans to go over.

We ended up having to change the plan completely from our first plan. Once the first plan (which we kind of designed without any help) was quoted, it was well beyond our reach. I was ready to give up and sell the block and buy an established home. We chatted to the builder and he came up with the idea of doing a tri level split home down the block (there is a 4m drop over 30m on the block) – so definitely not suited to a flat block plan.

House build was back on.

We got new plans and engineering done again and got them into council.

Who then didn’t approve the plan – say what? Something to do with not enough natural light coming at the rear or something. Basically the cheapest and easiest way to get around this was to flip the plan on the block. This isn’t ideal positioning, but we didn’t want to go through the hassle and more cost of a new plan, so we flipped the house.

Council was happy, we were happy and the house could start! And it did – YESTERDAY!

The site cut happened today and so far the top level has been excavated and levelled out. There is rain predicted for 12 hours tomorrow so not sure if the guys will get back out there to finish the other two levels.

This is the top level where the garage, entry, two bedrooms, bathroom and a huge walk in linen cupboard will be.

This is a view from the back fence. You can see the top level is completed, and the second level will begin soon. Inside our house are two lots of 6 steps making it a tri split level home.

One of the reasons I started Our Urban Box was to document our house build and now I can finally spam you all with house build updates! Ha!

Have any tips for me as we progress through the build?
