HACKED – THE KMART LANTERN
Have you attempted your own Kmart hack yet? I hadn’t and I wanted to get in on the Kmart hack action. As soon as I saw these Kmart outdoor lanterns on Instagram I knew I was going to get one and paint it black. They are very similar to a metal cube that was released by Country Road a while back that sold out across the country. I managed to snap up two lanterns the other week and set about choosing a colour.
I originally thought black would be my choice of colour and we had some black spray paint in the garage. But then I realised that all our furniture is quite dark so black might get a bit lost. I went to Bunnings and as soon I as saw the Ocean Mist by Rust-Oluem I was sold! I thought it was the perfect colour to pop against my dark furniture. And I can always change the colour later!
I had to do about 2 -3 light coats to cover everything. Once dry I did another 2 light coats. Make sure you are in a well ventilated area – I did mine outside.
All up it took me about 3o mins and was a lot of fun! I am looking for other things that need a new coat of paint!
There you have it! My first DIY attempt at anything. I am really happy with the mint colour. I think it goes perfectly in our bedroom and against our dark furniture. These lanterns are so versatile too. You can use them as a candle holder, vase (not with the glass cylinder that comes with it though) or even place a pot plant in them.
