24 Uses for Coconut Oil

I was at my besties house the other day, having a chat and cuppa as you do and she tells me her hands are dry and she needs to moisturise them. Ok hun, thats erm.. great. Go for it. Out she comes with a jar of coconut oil! She then tells me that it is the best thing for dry hands and she can’t believe the difference it has made to her dry skin. I’m thinking she is a little crazy at this stage because I use it to cook with not on my dry hands. She insists I try it. And I do.

And what do you know……. it is AMAZING!!! My hands were soft within seconds, and once the oil soaked in after a few minutes they looked completely different! I am hooked. I have my coconut oil sitting on the bench now and every day I am using it and its AMAZING!!! Have you tried it? You only need a tiny bit too – a tiny amount goes a long way.

Turns out that coconut oil has about a billion different uses other than cooking – I think I am the last person on earth to discover this but none the less, I am sharing some of my new found coconut oil uses with you anyhow!

Dry Skin Moisturiser – just remember to use a little bit, it goes a long way. I have used it all over as well, it can be a little oily at first but it only takes a minute or two for it to soak in.

An Alternative to Olive Oil – it has a higher smoking point than oil. I use it now instead of olive oil in all my cooking and baking. It can also be used instead of butter if you need to be dairy free.

➕ Soothe Bug Bites – rub a little bit of coconut oil onto mosquito and other insect bites to soothe the irritation.

➕ Soothe Nappy Rash – just rub onto baby’s bottom to soothe irritation and redness.

Repair Damaged Hair – Use coconut oil as a natural deep conditioner on the ends of your hair. Use on wet and clean hair. Allow to sit for a couple of minutes then rinse and style as usual.

Dry Lips – rub a small amount on your lips as a natural chapstick.

Tame the Frizz – rub a small amount on the palms of your hands and run your hands through your hair to tame the frizz!

Foot/Body/Hand Scrubhere is a easy and yummy smelling recipe to make your own coconut oil and salt scrub. It will moisturise as well remove dead skin.

Night Face Cream – Dr Oz recommends a thin, light layer at night in replacement of your normal night cream. Well if Dr Oz says so….

Natural Bug RepellantMake your own natural bug repelling cream with essential oils and coconut oil.

Help Nails Grow – Rub on to your cuticles to help your nails grow.

Dry Feet – rub your feet with coconut oil before bed and pop on a pair of socks. Your feet will be baby soft in the morning.

Treat Cuts & Scratches – apply a small amount to small cuts and scratched to help the wound heal faster.

Clean Fiddle Leaf Leaves – use a small amount on a damp cloth to clean the upper side of your fiddle leaf fig leaves. It will remove the dust and leave the leaves nice and shiny.

Make-up Remover – use a little bit of coconut oil on a cotton ball to remove your makeup. Rinse with warm water. It also helps to restore your skins natural glow.

Energy Boost – Add to your morning juice or smoothie for an added energy boost.

Nipple Cream – use on dry and cracked nipples when breast feeding.

Give Your Pooch a Shiny Coat – feed coconut oil to your dog and their coat will shine!

Salad Dressing – make your own salad dressing. Here is a soy and ginger one that sounds good.

Egg Substitute – coconut oil makes the perfect egg substitute in dessert cooking.

Banish Bad Breath – hold a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth till it melts and then swish it around your mouth for fresh breath.

Reduce Wrinkles – dab a small amount on the creases and lines on your face before bed.

Use to Grease Pans for Cooking – use in place of a cooking spray to coat pans before cooking or baking. The food won’t stick and it is much better for than those chemical filled sprays.

Prevent Stretchmarks – used daily on your pregnant belly, coconut oil may assist in helping prevent stretch marks.

I use coconut oil a lot, especially as a makeup remover, mouth pulling and in cooking and smoothies. Be careful when using in dressings as it can solidify if the outside temperature is too cool. I keep a jar in the bathroom and one in the pantry, oh and only buy certified organic 🙂

Love the stuff. I too keep a jar in the pantry for cooking/smoothies and another one in the bathroom for moisturizing. I also pop a bit in the kids bath when they have dry skin.
Oil pulling is amazing… they say to do it for 20 mins but I can never last that long. Your teeth feel so clean after!

I love coconut oil. It really is a go to for everything. What about the old oil pulling scenario. I have never given it a go. There are much better things I want to put in my mouth as soon as I get up, like hot tea!
